Vital Records
NC General Statues restrict access to certified copies of Birth, Death, and Marriage records. A person may request their own record or those of a family member if the relative is a spouse, parent, step-parent, child, step-child, sibling, grandparent or guardians/representatives who show proof of their authority.
Clay County only issues copies of birth, death and marriage records for events that took place in Clay County. We cannot record or issue birth, death and marriage records from other counties, states or countries.

Valid government-issued identification is required from all who request a certified vital record. Certified copies have a raised seal and are good for any legal purpose. Uncertified copies of all vital records are open to public inspection.
